scott paterson was born in long beach, california in 1951. he sites john bowman and harry phillips

as strong teaching influences in the 1970s, as well as robert bechtle and elyn zimmerman

at san francisco state university, and dan rice upon scott's arrival in connecticut in 1998.

for most of his career, scott worked primarily in a nonobjective, abstract manner.

about ten years ago, he began a return to realism with his "house" paintings, and, as a result

of an affiliation with a life drawing group in branford, ct, started to explore the idea of people

as a visual topic.
